Our Summary of the Rawlings 5150:

Back in 2018, Rawlings developed one of the best valued USA bats available for youth baseball players. This year, the company strives to deliver an even better-quality product with the 2019 Rawlings 5150 USA bat. The new 5150 still features Rawlings’ signature 5150 aerospace grade A alloy within a straight wall barrel which provides hitters with higher performance, stronger durability, and faster exit speeds when the baseball trampolines off the sweet spot. Also similar to last year’s model, the 2019 Rawlings 5150 encompasses a single piece construction with an ultra-balanced swing weight that resonates a traditional and lighter feel upon the grip. Like every 2019 Rawlings model, this USA bat utilizes the company’s patented p0p 2.0 Technology within the barrel wall providing an enlarged sweet spot and added pop that is sure to boost the confidence for youth hitters. As a means to improve on an already high performing youth bat, Rawlings created the Hyper-Lite Speed End Cap. This new innovation will deliver faster swing speeds, improved balance, lighter feel, and an overall more improved hitting experience. The 2019 Rawlings 5150 USA bat promises to continue the 5150 tradition of being one of the highest valued USA bats on the market. If you are searching for a USA bat that can distribute effective results at a reasonable price, the 2019 Rawlings 5150 is a premium choice.

Our Review of the Rawlings 5150:

Last season, the 5150 was a USA Bat that grew in popularity as the season progressed. In being the first 2019 USA Bat model to hit the market this season, the 5150 has been available since June of 2018 and widely used throughout the fall ball circuits of USA Baseball. When our team evaluated the 2019 Rawlings 5150, we utilized a core of youth volunteer hitters ranging in ages 8-11 to test the -10 drop as well as a group of hitters between ages 11-13 to swing the -5. Before the evaluation process commenced, we expected this Rawlings to deliver the same consistently solid contact as the 2018 edition. After approximately 250 swings of contact, the following is our official evaluation of the 2019 Rawlings 5150 USA Bat.

Evaluating the Pop of the Rawlings 5150:

Being one of the most affordable youth bats on the market, one wouldn’t expect much pop off the barrel especially in being a single piece alloy construction. Our volunteer youth hitters achieved adequate levels of pop so long as the ball made proper contact off the sweet spot. During the pop portion of the evaluation, our team noticed that those particular volunteers slotted as “experienced” players with a level of talent higher than “above average” or “all-star” drove the ball significantly further than those possessing less experience. This observation tells us that it can administer equal amounts of pop as most $300 youth bats when swung with proper batting fundamentals. This USA bat is a prime example that a batter doesn’t need the most expensive composite to launch the baseball.

OFFICIAL SCORE: 8 / 10

Calculating the Vibration Control of the Rawlings 5150:

When gauging a youth bat’s ability to prevent negative stinging vibrations, our team gathers detail feedback from the volunteers at every station. Throughout the duration of this evaluation, our sluggers reported feeling shock vibrations at an 8% rate. The 5150 houses a one piece alloy makeup which generally doesn’t protect a hitter’s grip like a two piece does. The 2019 Rawlings 5150 does an above average job deflecting stings.

OFFICIAL SCORE: 9 / 10

Assessing the Grip & Comfort of the Rawlings 5150:

Usually when a youth bat can limit shock vibrations, they tend to record more favorable numbers among our core of volunteer players. Among all the hitters we utilized, the majority of feedback indicates that the 5150 seemed very balanced and lightweight when swinging through the zone. One specific player wrote the following on their scorecard: “I used a 5150 last year and I like it. This one felt even better in my hands.” As with most youth metal bats, the actual weight may not be the same unit as stamped on the barrel. The 5150 bats in our position came in between 1oz.- 2oz. heavier.

OFFICIAL SCORE: 8.5 / 10

Measuring the Durability of the Rawlings 5150:

To measure the durability of the USA bats we acquire, our staff closely examines each bat after it has been through our rigorous evaluation process. After taking on 250+ hits not including an undocumented amount of foul balls, the 5150 held up very well with no major structural damage. Aside from minor scratches and nicks, our 5150 showed no dents, dings or cracks.

OFFICIAL SCORE 9.5 / 10

TLDR; Determining the Overall Experience of the Rawlings 5150:

The Rawlings 5150 showcased the performance of a youth USA bat that costs triple the price. It’s a perfect example that young sluggers don’t need the most expensive piece of hardware to generate offensive productivity. Through our observations, the 5150 possesses the necessary elements to provide consistent solid shots when accompanied by solid fundamentals. We recommend this USA bat for players in age range of 7-11 who look are looking for consistent connection.

OFFICIAL SCORE 8.75 / 10
